Razer and Tencent bring wearable tech and mobile gaming together

SINGAPORE — Gaming company Razer announced today (Aug 12) that their upcoming smartband will be integrated with a mobile game that will allow users to convert their real-life movements into in-game rewards.

The game, Tencent’s Timi Run Everyday, will be integrated with the yet-to-be-released Razer Nabu in what Razer says is a “world first”. This will allow steps walked, calories burnt and hours slept logged by the Nabu to be used to get gold or items within the game.

Tencent, the Internet company that also runs messaging service WeChat, said they hope this collaboration will “encourage more of our fans to keep fit in their daily lives”.

“The Tencent and Razer collaboration will certainly bring more exciting experiences as we explore more interesting and meaningful methods to integrate mobile games with Nabu,” added Mr Dan Brody, Vice President Tencent Games Business.

Tencent had earlier announced that its WeChat service will be integrated with the Nabu. Dying Light developers Techland, World Of Tanks’ Wargaming, and Halfbrick (Fruit Ninja) are also looking into ways to integrate Nabu use into their games, announced Razer.

The Razer Nabu is currently undergoing a beta programme where only developers are allowed access to the device. At launch, Razer will sell a limited co-branded Timi Run Everyday edition of the Nabu, which will come with exclusive in-game rewards.

“We are incredibly excited to have Tencent come onboard as a partner to enhance their massively popular mobile apps and games with the Nabu,” said Mr Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO.
