SINGAPORE — Technology bigwigs Intel, Dell and Revolution Analytics yesterday announced a collaboration to push for the development of Big Data market in Asia.

The Big Data Innovation Center, to be housed at the Dell Solution Center at the International Business Park, will bring together expertise from the three organisations to provide extensive training programmes, proof-of-concept capabilities and solution development support on Big Data and predictive analytic innovations for the Asia market.

“The Big Data Innovation Center provides the platform for organisations to capitalise on the growing importance of Big Data analytics to gain a competitive advantage by leveraging actionable insights, through the provision of training, and by providing a platform for customers and Independent Software Vendors (ISV)across Asia to test-run big data proof-of-concept initiatives onsite at the centre or remotely via VPN,” said Mr Sumir Bhatia, Regional Director, South Asia, Enterprise Solutions, Dell.

“On the training front, the Big Data Innovation Center will provide participants with the necessary skills to improve the quality of data mining across a wider range of platforms from a larger pool of sources. This will be done in the form of training sessions, seminars and workshops from half-day workshops to courses spanning between two and three days,” added Mr Laurence Liew, General Manager, Asia-Pacific, for Revolution Analytics.

“The Revolution Analytics’ Centre of Attachment three-month programme will also leverage this centre for its training. We expect some 80 to 100 trainees to go through the various workshops and training courses within the first year. Our first batch of 20 participants have just started training last week at the Big Data Innovation Center.”

According to market research company IDC (International Data Corporation), Big Data technology and its services market is expected to grow at a compound growth rate (CAGR) of 31.7 per cent, or about seven times the rate of the overall information and communications technology (ICT) market. Revenues are forecast to reach US$23.8 billion (S$30 billion) by 2016. IDC expects Big Data spending in Asia-Pacific, excluding Japan, to reach US$603 million in 2013, up 42.6 per cent over last year.
