SINGAPORE — Microsoft is planning to launch two new Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone devices shortly, reported The Verge citing sources close to the company.

Microsoft devices chief Stephen Elop had reportedly revealed both gadgets during an internal company meeting, along with video teasers.

Mr Elop was reported to have described one of the phones as a ”selfie phone” — revealed in previous reports to go by the code name “Superman” — and the other phone, codenamed “Tesla”, was described as an “affordable high-end phone” with a PureView camera.

The “Superman” phone is rumoured to feature a 4.7-inch screen, an eight megapixel rear facing camera, a Quad-Core Snapdragon 400 processor, and a five megapixel front facing camera.

The Tesla handset, according to The Verge, is a likely replacement for the Lumia 720 and while it looks similar to the Lumia 930, it will be thinner and less bulky.
