SINGAPORE — SingTel has become the first telco here and globally to lead the charge in providing a full featured Voice over Long Term Evolution (LTE) service.
With this service, dubbed 4G ClearVoice, 4G customers can look forward to clearer voice calls and faster connection times. The connection times are touted to be less than two seconds, which is up to five times faster than regular calls. On SingTel’s service, they can also access more features such as call waiting and forwarding.
However, there is a catch: It will only be available to those who buy the new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from May 31. The service will gradually be available to users of other 4G handsets in the “coming months”, as SingTel installs software upgrades to the handsets to enable them for this service, according to the telco.
This service, offered in collaboration with Samsung and Ericsson, will be available from May 31.
Mr Johan Buse, SingTel’s Vice President of Consumer Marketing, said: “As the first full-featured VoLTE service in the world, 4G ClearVoice complements our efforts in delivering the fastest mobile broadband services in Singapore. Customers will enjoy the flexibility of making calls and using ultra high speed 4G mobile data services at the same time.”
From May 31, 4G ClearVoice will be available to SingTel 4G postpaid customers at no additional cost. Talktime will be deducted from the monthly bundled voice minutes of their existing subscription plan.
