Nothing but slam-tastic fun with WWE2K14

SINGAPORE — 2K Games has given the world the critically acclaimed Borderlands and XCOM series. This year’s version of the WWE’s flagship video game celebrates the 30th anniversary of Wrestlemania, and players will get a chance to relive the highlights of all the Wrestlemania editions under the 30 Years of Wrestlemania mode.
Each classic match starts with a very emotional and intense video preview of the events leading up to the fight, giving players a very detailed story behind the greatest WWE fight of that year.
You start at Wrestlemania I, where your task as Andre the Giant is to perform a body slam on Big John Studd. Accomplish that mission and you will move on to WrestleMania II. Completing the fights of the following Wrestlemanias will then unlock the classic matches of the next wrestling festival.
You will also be rewarded with more options of wrestlers such as Hulk Hogan, the Macho Man, Razor Ramon and Chris Jericho if you accomplish certain objectives that help recreate events seen in the actual fight.
In addition, the usual modes in previous WWE games by THQ are also available: Players can fight in different types of matches such as tag-team contests, Royal Rumbles and four-way ties in both the single- and multi-player modes.
The option which allows you to create your own wrestler and embark on a journey to become the next WWE superstar also returns.
WWE2K14 is one of the best-looking games this year. Wrestlers look almost lifelike and everything, from the arena designs to the music, is reminiscent of the glitz and glamour of the WWE. Cut scenes of wrestlers making their grand entrance into the ring is something gamers should not miss as well.
Performing slams and special moves is a breeze in WWE2K14.
You just need to toggle the left stick and the A button on the Xbox 360 console to grapple your opponent, and the wrestler will execute a range of moves depending on the combination of buttons you press later.
But performing perfectly-timed reversals by pressing the right-trigger is the tough part — and the key to dominating the ring.
WWE2K14 will not be in the running for most of the gaming awards, but it is one of the most impressive-looking and fun titles I have ever played. If you grew up watching the stars of WWE or are still catching them on TV, this title is a must-have.
