SINGAPORE — Gamers who buy Microsoft’s Xbox One will also be able to access StarHub programmes on the console, under a new partnership announced yesterday (Sept 1).

Using StarHub’s TV Anywhere app on the Xbox One, existing Starhub subscribers will be able to access all 89 channels in the app. For non-subscribers, only the SuperSports Arena channel will be made available for them as long as they have registered for a free Hub ID account.

“Boasting a signature Windows tiled layout unique to Xbox One, the app offers easy navigation through StarHub TV Anywhere’s line-up of 89 channels including one FreeView Channel, SuperSports Arena,” said Microsoft in a press release. This is the first Xbox One cable television app in Asia.

Unique to Xbox One, the StarHub TV Anywhere app recognises voice and gesture commands, and allows users to discover content offered on StarHub TV Anywhere via Xbox One’s native Bing search. Users can also use Xbox SmartGlass, an Xbox app, to turn their mobile devices into remote controls to interact with the StarHub TV Anywhere app directly.

Last year, Microsoft said that the Xbox One’s delayed release in Asian markets was due to the time needed to create the “right localised content, right applications”.

Yesterday’s announcement comes as Xbox showcased its line-up of blockbuster games coming to Singapore when the game console goes on sale on Sept 23.

“The feedback from our fans in Singapore has been overwhelming. We are excited about the launch on Sept 23rd and look forward to welcoming our fans to a world of award-winning games, making Xbox the best place to play this holiday and beyond,” Mr Rennie Addabbo, Xbox Sales and Marketing Director, Greater Asia Region said at the event.

He added that Xbox will launch at least 50 games this holiday with 20 of them being exclusive to the platform, making it “the biggest console launch line up in Singapore”.

Fans in Singapore currently have two pre-order options: The Xbox One Launch Console Bundle, which includes a digital copy of EA Sports™ FIFA 15 (S$639), and the Xbox One Launch Kinect Bundle which includes a digital copy of EA Sports™ FIFA 15 and Dance Central Spotlight (S$739).
