SINGAPORE — Using a taser, they are said to have gone after their victim in a car park in Pasir Ris in an attempt to abduct him, but were unsuccessful.

Later, two of the three alleged attackers were arrested at a chalet in Changi — with items like a meat mincer, a chainsaw, a chopping board and suitcases found on the premises — while another was caught near Balestier Road.

Today (June 24), Yae Wynnt Oaung, 32, Zaw Min Hlaing, 37 and Phyo Min Naing, 31 were charged with conspiring to commit murder. Yaw and Phyo are Myanmar nationals, while Zaw is a Singapore permanent resident.

An accomplice, Win Kyaw Kyaw Aung @ Aung Aung, 29, is still at large. The group’s alleged murder target was identified in court documents as Singapore permanent resident Aye Maung Maung Thet, 28.

The trio were remanded for another week for further investigations.

Under the Penal Code, a person who abets in an offence punishable by death or life imprisonment can be jailed up to seven years and fined, if the offence was not eventually committed.

If an offence is committed after the abetment, and a person was hurt, the abettor can be jailed up to 14 years, and shall also be liable to fine.

The court heard that the four men had planned to carry out their crime on Saturday (June 20). The next day, at 9.32pm, three of them tried to abduct Aye Maung Maung Thet at a multi-storey car park at Block 747A Pasir Ris Street 7. The alleged victim was assaulted, and a taser gun was used on him, but the attackers fled when the victim’s cries for help attracted the attention of passers-by.

Three of the men were arrested after the victim made a police report on the same day. One of the suspects was arrested on Monday afternoon in an ambush near Balestier Road. Hours later, police arrested the other two suspects at a chalet at Aloha Changi. Other items seized from the chalet included kitchen knives, gas cooker, gas cylinder tank, a tool set, plastic sheets, cable ties, a cleaver, aprons and rubber boots.

The police also seized a white Mitsubishi multi-purpose vehicle at the basement carpark of Changi Airport Terminal 3. The accomplice still at large is believed to have left Singapore on Monday morning, the police had said.

The case will be heard again on July 1.
