Personal mobility devices pose safety risk on shared paths
The authorities have to do more about the e-scooters and other types of personal mobility devices, which are being promoted as a means of transport and which share paths with pedestrians.

Every evening, when I walk home from Khatib MRT Station along one such so-called shared path, I come across people using all kind of devices to ease their commute back home.
If they conform to the proper usage of the pavement, pedestrians are safe. However, in reality, this is not the case. I have been almost knocked down a number of times by people moving at high speeds with total disregard for other users.
Even at Yishun Ring road, where the paths are marked for cyclists and pedestrians at the traffic junction, I have seen cyclists speed across the pathway of pedestrians.
I wonder how many more tragedies — such as the recent case of a woman hit by an e-scooter — we need before the authorities step in.
