Allow CPF use for funeral expenses

Generally speaking, Central Provident Fund monies belong to Singaporeans after their lifetime of work (“Greater flexibility with changes to CPF, but MPs call for prudence”; Oct 11).

In years to come, Singapore will be like Japan; our population will age tremendously. There would thus be greater demand for social and medical welfare of the elderly.

From a humanitarian viewpoint, the CPF Board should look into the possibility of allowing CPF monies to be used for the individual’s funeral wake and related services provided by the casket company.

This would serve as financial relief for the deceased’s family.
