Aviation jobs on offer should also be open to qualified foreign grads

It was heartening to read that there are 2,300 jobs available at Changi Airport, especially in this time of uncertainty and disruption (“Thousands throng Changi fair for jobs in aviation sector”; Feb 9).

It was heartening to read that there are 2,300 jobs available at Changi Airport, especially in this time of uncertainty and disruption (“Thousands throng Changi fair for jobs in aviation sector”; Feb 9).

But how many of these jobs will be taken up by Singaporeans? It is understandable that they come first, but do they have the needed skills?

We must also be open to qualified overseas graduates filling the gaps, rather than accept Singaporeans who want work but take no ownership of it and thus become unproductive or leave at the slightest dissatisfaction.

To be an international city, we must be open-minded and accept people from around the world who value Singapore as a place to start their career.
