I refer to the letter “SGH car park not patient-friendly” (July 18), about allotments for short-term parking.

In most Housing and Development Board multi-storey car parks, the lower floors are usually reserved for season parking on Sundays and public holidays.

Take, for example, the car park near Clementi Swimming Complex, where the floors reserved for season parking are usually not occupied fully on Sundays and public holidays. Level 4A, especially, is almost deserted, yet visitors must park on the higher decks, wasting petrol and causing unnecessary emissions as the writer observed.

Some adjustments could be made, maybe by allowing hourly parking for up to five lots on each floor reserved for season parking on Sundays and public holidays, or allowing hourly parking on all floors up to 3pm on these days.

As residents of a small country, we should learn to give and take, and the authority should not encourage narrow-minded exertion of parking rights in this case.
