Ban tissue hawking in food centres
Over the past year or so, I have witnessed foreigners making fast money from the sale of tissue packets in several hawker centres in Bedok. This issue must be addressed for several reasons.
Over the past year or so, I have witnessed foreigners making fast money from the sale of tissue packets in several hawker centres in Bedok. This issue must be addressed for several reasons.
The foreigners are mostly able-bodied. Some others, who are handicapped, are transported to the hawker centres by their so-called employers to monopolise the market.
For the duration they are in Singapore, they muscle their way around various hawker centres, harassing the public. Possibly, some of them could even be on long-term passes here and are exploiting the hospitality extended to them.
A strict ban on such tissue sale in hawker and food centres should be implemented. In this way, patrons of hawker and food centres would know not to make purchases.
This would give them the strength to warn their harassers to cease their illegal activity. Patrons could also take photos of offenders and submit feedback to the relevant authority.
To me, such tissue sale by Singaporeans in hawker centres and food centres is not justifiable either.
A clear, permanent ban on the illegal hawking of any item in hawker and food centres is the most effective way to deal with this nagging problem, with signs displayed prominently in both English and Chinese.
The signs should also indicate the punishment for violating the ban, and tissue packets can be highlighted as an example.
