Be wary of baseless reports about candidates

Once again, character assassination has reared its ugly head (“Poison pen letter prompts WP candidate to file police report”; Aug 29).

It is unthinkable that allegations of misconduct were made against Workers’ Party candidate Daniel Goh (picture) when there was no evidence.

It is difficult to understand the mindset of those who indulge in filing unfavourable reports to discredit candidates during the election season.

These people are unable to distinguish between one’s political and personal lives.

Associate Professor Goh should stand his ground and remain adamant about his aspiration to be a voice of the people.

More attempts to tarnish candidates’ reputation via social media may be expected.

This is where media outlets can play a pivotal role by being circumspect when dealing with reports that are deemed baseless and have a hidden agenda.
