Besides lifts, upgrade HDB void decks too
I refer to the report “Town councils must set aside 14% of conservancy fees for lift replacement” (Jan 24). Setting aside more service and conservancy funds is a wise move in view of our ageing residential blocks.

Although lift replacements are now the focus, another focus of attention could be void decks. Their floorings are increasingly run-down, with hairline cracks and ugly stains. These are neglected areas not included in the Main Upgrading Programme or the Interim Upgrading Programme. Alternatively, the upgrading of such flooring could come under the Housing and Development Board and its Home Improvement Programme, instead of town councils taking full responsibility.
