BMTC data leak deeply troubling

Kudos to Darryl Lo for bringing up the data security breach by the Basic Military Training Centre (“Link to SAF soldiers’ IC numbers, photos posted on Facebook” and “Oversight led to soldiers’ details being published online”, March 16).

It seems like there was insufficient IT applications-testing done before the launch of the new system.

This lack of preparedness is deeply troubling, contrasted against the Government Technology Agency of Singapore’s vision and scope of initiatives, which include helping the public sector with infocommunications technology. I look forward to a real improvement in processes by public-sector professionals after this incident.
