Build budget hotels near Changi Airport

I refer to the commentary “Changi Airport must develop into a destination in itself” (Jan 6). Changi Airport is already a destination for some, if not many, Singaporeans and foreigners.

Since I was young, I have been in love with Changi Airport. Every three weeks or so, I would visit, study there, enjoy the environment and view planes taxiing, taking off and landing.

I even worked there years ago, an experience that I will always cherish. I am glad Project Jewel will make the airport more attractive.

But more can be done, such as building more budget hotels to attract tourists and even Singaporeans who do not need or wish to pay a high price for staycations.

Also, foreigners and investors who come here for the Singapore Airshow, Asia’s biggest aviation show, every two years would then be able to stay near the site.

I hope the authorities can and will spur developers to build such hotels in and around Changi Airport for foreigners and Singaporeans.
