I refer to the report “Car-free town centres among draws of Tengah ‘forest town’” (Sept 9).

The concept is a good one that will help bring attention to the issue of climate change.

Although this is only in Tengah and might not seem like much, it signals that more can be done to tackle global warming, and perhaps in the future, we will see more areas in Singapore with similar concepts.

Singapore is a busy city and many people lead fast-paced lives, be it at work or at school. A forest town can help people to unwind after a long day in a tranquil environment.

Also, in Singapore, we hardly see car-free zones, although there are initiatives such as “Car Free Sundays”.

It may be inconvenient for people to get around without cars, but they can also enjoy nature better when they do not have cars. This may even influence other countries to do something similar, adding to global efforts to tackle climate change.

This is a step to something new in our society, and I hope that it will make Singapore an even greener city.
