Cashless payments: Technology is not foolproof

There has been so much talk about Singapore moving towards a cashless society.
My only concern is: Do I need to sign up a mobile plan with the telcos just to be able to participate?
My mobile usage is very low and so, I use a prepaid SIM card and top up as and when the remaining balance is depleting.
Just because the Government does not want to feel like it is “a mountain tortoise” (behind times), we have to bear and pay for all this unnecessary expenditure?
Sometimes it is all right to be second and not first in everything.
I still believe that cash and cashless transactions be allowed to run together at retailers, because technology is not foolproof.
Do we have to go hungry if the system breaks down and we cannot pay for our food?
