Cashless system better than cash machines in supermarkets
FairPrice should encourage customers to use cashless payments, as a faster mode of payment, instead of cash.
Its deployment of cash machines at its counters seems to have resulted in a longer payment process compared with when the cashier collects the money from customers.
The machines accept one note at a time, which may have lengthened waiting times.
The relevant authority should assess their effectiveness on-site and whether these machines should qualify organisations for a grant, which should be dispensed only if they are effective, as taxpayers’ money is involved.
