Charge for plastic bags will reduce litter, allow for healthier marine life

I agree with the letter, “Charge for plastic bags to cut down on their use” (Nov 23). With a 10-cent charge for plastic bags, shoppers are more likely to use less and to bring their own recyclable bags as is done in other countries.

I agree with the letter, “Charge for plastic bags to cut down on their use” (Nov 23). With a 10-cent charge for plastic bags, shoppers are more likely to use less and to bring their own recyclable bags as is done in other countries.

Another upside is that it would probably create less litter for cleaners and volunteers such as Waterways Watch Society to clean up, and fewer plastic bags ending up in the water, where they endanger marine and river life. Barbara Hirayama
