Check all HDB units to prevent more windows from falling
I refer to the report “More cases of fallen windows this year” (Dec 12).
I refer to the report “More cases of fallen windows this year” (Dec 12).
Most of the cases were casement windows that had become dislodged and fell owing to corroded aluminium rivets.
Since 2005, homeowners have been required to change their aluminium rivets to stainless steel ones. So if the number of cases of fallen windows are increasing, it means people have not changed the rivets.
In the public interest, the authorities must check the windows of all Housing and Development Board (HDB) units.
It is the only way to prevent more windows from falling.
