This month saw two incidents of falling trees (“Woman in intensive care after being hit by falling tree in car park”; Feb 14 and “Woman killed by tree ‘a rising star’ in Mastercard”: Feb 13).

I have been living in Hume Avenue for 20 years, during which many trees were planted along the park connector network.

There are, however, nylon ropes still tied to poles and the tree trunks, originally intended as supports when the trees were just planted.

I have not noticed any follow-ups to unfasten the ropes as the trunks thicken and continue to grow.

Would these ropes wrapped around the trees not weaken their branches and give way under heavy rain or by their own weight in future?

Perhaps the tree planting contractors should inspect these ropes and unfasten them if the trees can stand on their own without the poles.
