Commercial ads inappropriate for public housing lifts, lobbies
I disagree with the letter “Offset lift maintenance costs via paid ads in public housing areas” (July 14).
I disagree with the letter “Offset lift maintenance costs via paid ads in public housing areas” (July 14).
Lift lobbies and lifts should be treated strictly as residential entities, and not utilised for commercial purposes.
Every space available has been put to good use, such as for police advisories, community programmes and activities, as well as updates from relevant government agencies.
There is no justification for increasing service and conservancy charges for lift maintenance, as town councils should already have funds budgeted for emergency use.
Also, residents affected by the Lift Upgrading Programme were required to pay a portion of the costs incurred after the subsidy.
Hence, it is unfair for them to fork out extra money to meet the costs of future maintenance works.
There must be other means to generate revenue for additional lift expenses, but the lifts and surrounding areas should not be locations at which outsiders pay to advertise their business.
