Consent not needed from NMP nominees?

To many laypersons, it may seem unthinkable that the few who are chosen periodically as Nominated Members of Parliament are disinclined to seek a second term. (“At least five NMPs not seeking second term”; April 15)

One could reasonably expect it to be difficult to turn down the privilege and prestige accompanying such public office, which is additionally not honorary or even full-time.

The Clerk of Parliament has posted an Invitation for Submission of Names as NMPs to the general public. Surprisingly absent from the stipulated qualifications is the express consent of the nominee, which one could reasonably expect to be a must.
