Consider the impact development works have on nature

I view with concern and even a feeling of dread how many pockets of greenery in Singapore have been cleared for developments.

I enjoy taking a casual drive or walk along the area around Bukit Timah Saddle Club. It is rare to have a small, quiet forest in this place, and one can spot many unusual birds and other wildlife here.

There is a cafe in its midst, where a day of stressful work can be relieved by enjoying the greenery over a cup of coffee.

But recently, I spotted development work there: Bulldozers, piles of logs from felled old trees, and men with pneumatic drills causing a ruckus while repairing an almost-perfect carpark beside the cafe.

I hope the Singapore Land Authority or the relevant agency in charge considers carefully the impact on nature areas when such work is carried out. Such spaces are therapeutic to one’s soul in such a heavily populated land.
