According to the Housing and Development Board guidelines, noisy home renovations, such as cutting of tiles, demolition of walls and removing floor/wall finishes, are not allowed over weekends and public holidays.

But large-scale construction next to homes is allowed on Saturday until 10pm, based on the National Environment Agency guidelines. The two agencies have different guidelines for the same issue of noise affecting residents.

Since construction involves heavy machinery, would that not generate louder noise? To ensure residents’ well-being, such work involving machinery should be stopped on Saturdays.
