Could measures other than killing the chickens have been taken?

I refer to the report “‘Noisy chickens’ in Sin Ming Avenue put down after residents’ complaints” (Feb 1).

I refer to the report “‘Noisy chickens’ in Sin Ming Avenue put down after residents’ complaints” (Feb 1).

Has the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) investigated why the fowl population was that large in the area, and how did it determine the chickens were not red junglefowl?

I have seen people feeding the birds in the area, including the junglefowl. And such cases of human intervention end up in animals paying with their lives.

Could measures other than killing the chickens have been taken? We want a green city and therefore should learn to coexist with wildlife, which the AVA should stop treating as pests.
