Design for safety in response to terror threat

The tragic London attack would present the police of any country, even Singapore, with a puzzle on how to pre-empt a copycat attack (London on edge after terror attack outside Parliament; March 23).

A recent commonality between terrorist attacks is the use of vehicles, as well as unsophisticated weapons such as knives, to create carnage.

I suggest that the Building and Construction Authority, the Land Transport Authority and the Home Team collaborate on a new building and transport code to provide a safe zone or perimeter for pedestrians in highly populated built-up areas in future.

Human safety should be more important than design aesthetics.
