We thank Mr Teo Kok Seah for his continued support for our libraries, and his suggestion for Sembawang Public Library, which was designed with feedback from the community. (“Noise at Sembawang Library needs to be contained”; Nov 22)

To cater to patrons’ diverse needs, we have created spaces in the library for different types of activities. These are designed to provide different experiences for the various age groups that use the library.

For example, the timber Reading Deck and the nearby container-inspired seating areas, which encourage parents and children to sit and read together, are also used for children’s programmes such as storytelling.

Visitors looking for a quiet place to read can use other areas such as the Reading Lounge or the Programme Room.

We will look into Mr Teo’s feedback on the sound caused by children stamping heavily on the wooden floor.

As the library is a common space for everyone, we seek patrons’ co-operation to keep the environment pleasant and show consideration to fellow users.

Our staff will also make regular rounds in the library to promote good library etiquette.
