Disclose town council tender processes

Today, Parliament will discuss the lapses in the Workers’ Party town council accounts. (“Parliament to discuss governance, safeguards for all town councils”; Feb 11)

One pertinent area is conflict of interest, where payments were made to town council employees who owned or were linked to companies the town council hired to do estate management work. As this involves public funds and perhaps large sums, it is indeed timely to make known the tender processes at all town councils and to whom tenders are awarded.

For example, do town councils award contracts to residents of the precincts they manage or to Residents’ Committee members? If such practices are prevalent, they should be addressed immediately.
