I am confident that it will go some way towards improving the services of Uber and Grab by weeding out some drivers who are not so serious about embracing this vocation as their livelihood.

These are usually drivers who are only boosting their income randomly and are therefore not so good for the industry.

The same applies to the tuition industry and half-hearted tutors who teach only at times, when they have the time, whether or not they are qualified to do so.

Without such drivers, there is bound to be an improvement to cheer Singaporeans.

Already, we must credit Uber and Grab with having somewhat minimised the problem of taxi drivers who make themselves scarce by, for example, identifying themselves as “hired” when they are not or simply disappearing from the roads.

Competition is necessary, and I expect us to have a taxi industry we will be proud of after Grab and Uber address their shortcomings.
