Driving instructors have role in safety

I was driving on Bukit Batok Road last Friday when it was raining. The sky was rather dark and visibility was low.

There were several learner drivers on the road, as is typically the case. While some motorists had their headlights on at that time, I noticed only one of the learner drivers had his lights switched on.

Driving instructors are supposed to not only develop driving skills but also educate learners on the right attitude and safety consciousness for safe driving. My observation that day suggests that the instructors present were not taking into account road conditions.

Driving instructors may have to review what they are teaching learners in the drive to develop a nation of considerate, safe and competent drivers. The authorities should also review the quality of instruction.
