Our urban planners decided to place housing in this sector of Singapore, and it was the transport authorities’ idea to have the KPE as a primary route to reach the city from Punggol and Sengkang.

But which co-ordinating agency was looking at this issue holistically? I have been living in Punggol for over two years, and I believe that many KPE users are flummoxed about ERP charges being triggered.

Has the Land Transport Authority reviewed the demographics, conditions and variables causing the speeds to dip to as low as 30kmh? Perhaps this can be explained by a lack of agency co-ordination.

The Urban Redevelopment Authority houses people in the north-east outskirts of Singapore, while the LTA just has to construct roads and charge if they are congested. I appeal for a holistic approach and for the Government to apply data analytics.

The fact is that there is only one main artery out of Punggol and Sengkang with direct access to the southern part of Singapore.
