Embryos with abnormalities are human beings, too

The letter “Embryo screening is genetic discrimination” (Nov 22) gives voice to the voiceless.

A living, growing embryo has a unique DNA, different from that of his or her parents, and is waiting to be born.

But we often overlook the fact that embryos with abnormalities are also human beings. Would we kill a baby at birth if he or she is not the type we want?

Many of us have friends who are physically or mentally not as “normal” as us, but we treasure them for who they are.

We honour our Paralympians, who brought glory to our country.

We admire people such as motivational speaker Nick Vujicic, who was born without limbs and was given a chance to live a wonderful life.

We should not do away with someone whom some may deem as not useful to us and to society.
