Empathy, honour at the heart of education

I am glad the eventual outcome is that the “St Margaret’s girls who shaved heads need not wear wigs” (Aug 8).

The principal and the girls have good intentions, and no one needs to feel misunderstood. There is indeed much learning in this episode.

We should value empathy and also honour, so that other students understand that and do not take advantage of the situation to make a fashion statement and bring attention to self. The Education Minister’s reminder about the heart of education is appreciated.
