The report “300 people, four stores caught breaching Little India alcohol rules” (Dec 5), signals that the authorities are sparing no effort to prevent a repeat of last year’s riot. I applaud the efforts.

The report “300 people, four stores caught breaching Little India alcohol rules” (Dec 5), signals that the authorities are sparing no effort to prevent a repeat of last year’s riot. I applaud the efforts.

However, besides enforcement, the companies whose workers congregate often in Little India could step up efforts to remind them of the prohibited timings for alcohol consumption in the designated areas and highlight the possible undesirable consequences of intoxication.

After all, the workers come to Singapore to earn a living and remit money home to their families. The last thing they would want is to be involved in a tragedy because of excessive alcohol consumption.

With the efforts of all, Little India will be made a better and more charming place.
