Expanded exit ramp on CTE not used efficiently

The exit ramp from the Central Expressway (CTE) to the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) going towards Changi was expanded a few years ago, presumably at considerable cost. A stretch of a few hundred metres was expanded to two lanes.

However, almost all vehicles, including slow-moving goods vehicles, keep to the right lane when using this ramp. As it is illegal to overtake on the left, all traffic remains on the right, rendering the left lane practically unused.

I had written to the Land Transport Authority, the Singapore Police Force and the Ministry of Transport over the past few months, each time receiving the standard “we will look into the matter” reply. But the situation remains.

I suggest the lane markings be re-drawn to guide traffic to the left lane. Then faster-moving vehicles will have to move out to the right lane to pass. At the same time, some enforcement action will be needed.

I hope the authorities can do something about this.
