Delays are expected on the North-South Line owing to glitches in the new signalling system (NSL signalling tests to last for months, delays expected; June 28).

This seems to be realistic testing of the system, by putting it under stress conditions during weekday rush hours, before the issues are resolved and the system is stabilised in “four to six” months’ time.

For that reason, I suggest that the free MRT rides before 7.45am be extended to the end of the year, including on the Downtown and Circle lines since they connect to the older lines.

I hope that the testing criteria is stringent and that there is also a cut-off date by which, if the new system continues to fail, SMRT and the Land Transport Authority would revert to using the old system.
