Fact that some foreign universities are less stringent

I refer to the debate in Voices on degrees from private universities.

While some graduates with these degrees are as good as, if not better than, graduates of our local universities, it is a fact that some overseas universities, especially the lesser-known ones, are less stringent in their curricula and assessments.

In my polytechnic days, I had a classmate who turned in Cs and Ds consistently. After graduation, she enrolled for a degree with a university I had never heard of then and became one of its “top students”.

In this regard, I agree with the point of the letter “Private grads must go for accredited degrees” (Nov 28).
