Find out why Sin Ming fowl left their habitat

My son was dismayed when he saw the report “‘Noisy chickens’ in Sin Ming Avenue put down after residents’ complaints” (Feb 1), and I felt the same way.

My son was dismayed when he saw the report “‘Noisy chickens’ in Sin Ming Avenue put down after residents’ complaints” (Feb 1), and I felt the same way.

Must the authorities come out with guns blazing when there are complaints from intolerant people? Over the years, these chickens had brought joy to Sin Ming Avenue residents — young and old.

It is reported that the chickens put down were not the endangered red junglefowl. How does the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority know this?

It should focus on something more important concerning these chickens and junglefowl: What has caused them in recent years to leave the nearby forested areas, which are their natural habitat?

The way things are, the junglefowl have been left to fend for themselves at the public housing blocks and condominiums in the area.
