Fine cabbies who refuse to take passengers to their destination

The writer of “Consider classifying taxis as a form of public transport” (Aug 12) compared taxi services here with those in Hong Kong, and I agree that fare surcharges should be abolished. Tourists and foreigners here who do not know the regulations might now be charged extra by some cabbies.

I would also recommend that the Land Transport Authority fine cabbies who refuse to take passengers to their destination. This has worked in Shanghai, where cabbies face a fine for refusing to pick up passengers.

It is annoying when cabbies want to go in their desired direction and refuse passengers for even a short trip sometimes. People often end up waiting for a long time to get a taxi. I feel we are serving taxi drivers instead of being provided taxi services.
