Flats for the elderly, not for investment

The Government is seeking feedback on having 30-year leases for two-room flats for the elderly (“HDB to raise income ceilings for BTO flats, ECs”; June 24).

I hope this will not be another Housing and Development Board scheme that starts well but loses sight of its original objectives. Let us make it simple, to the purpose and never for investment.

Ideally, these should be flats for rent, i.e. to be returned to the HDB for the next lessee. And lessees must live in the flats; once the rules are broken, out they should go.
