A flotilla of tall ships for Singapore’s 200th anniversary?
I was inspired by the arrival of a majestic tall ship (“Mexican navy sailing ship docks at VivoCity amid much fanfare”; July 19, Channel NewsAsia).

The 200th anniversary of the founding of Singapore will be in 2019, and we should invite a flotilla of tall ships, such as Mexico’s Cuauhtemoc, for a grand celebration.
Better still, a replica of the Indiana, the ship that Stamford Raffles arrived on in 1819, could be built and moored in our waters to commemorate the spirit of adventure and enterprise.
Its interior could be a floating museum of all things Raffles and, possibly, William Farquhar. (The replica of the Indiana at Pulau Ubin’s Outward Bound School houses a challenge course.)
