Foot processions a question of religious necessity

I refer to the report “Hindus have privilege not given to other faiths, says Shanmugam” (Feb 7).

I agree with the Law and Foreign Affairs Minister that “gratuitous attacks on the police cannot be allowed and should not be tolerated”. The law should take its full course on those who abuse it.

I do not, though, see Hindus as having a special privilege only because other religions may not require foot processions.

It is a question of religious requirement; if Hinduism requires a procession, then it should be allowed.

Each religious ritual and culture should be looked into on its own merits.
