Footpath rules can make walking less stressful

I refer to the report “LTA panel to look into rules on use of footpaths, cycling paths” (July 31) and applaud the effort to look into these rules.

Every day, hundreds of commuters walk along Boon Lay Way, towards the MRT station, with fear of being knocked down by cyclists, many of whom are rushing to work and would just ring their bell while cycling fast.

Occasionally, pregnant women, children and the elderly have almost been hit by riders seeming to claim the pavement as their right of way.

Not knowing where these increasing numbers of workers on bicycles are coming from, we suffer silently.

It is already stressful being in the trains, but these days, even walking to the station has become a stressful process.

I hope the rules of footpath usage will be implemented soon to protect us and give us the basic freedom to walk without anxiety to the MRT station.
