Instead of a no-claims MediShield bonus, the insured could be encouraged to submit certain health indicators, such as body mass index, cholesterol level and blood pressure.

If one meets the health criteria set by the Health Ministry for one’s age group, a “good-health” bonus could be awarded. This may avoid the scenario of the insured not seeking treatment when they are sick.

It could encourage them to seek help proactively to improve their health or prevent further deterioration. Overall healthcare costs would be reduced.

The ministry could also maintain a database to analyse or track the population’s overall health level, which could be useful when devising health policies.

As for those who join MediShield Life with preconditions, a bonus could be extended to them if their conditions improve.
