Halt indiscriminate cutting down of old trees

From Lim Yew Yee

The construction work being done along Hampshire Road has led to the grand old trees along it being chopped off. Those trees had been there for ages, yet they were chopped off, just like that. That is unacceptable.

Whether this is some sort road widening works, it was outrageously irresponsible. The landscape’s beauty is now totally gone.

Understandably, the trees along Bukit Timah Road had to be removed because of MRT construction works. But works on such a small road could have been done in such a way that allowed the trees to be preserved.

What is the point of increasing awareness of environmental issues and having such campaigns in the media if the authorities are not even doing their part?

I hope the appropriate agency will conduct an investigation and provide an explanation to the public.
