Hard to find a cheerful elderly cleaner at hawker centres
I agree with the letter “Older workers deserve appreciation for their efforts and contribution” (April 15). I greet our postmen, garbage men, road sweepers and food vendors when we come into contact.

Regretfully, I find it hard to do the same with elderly workers who clear tables at hawker centres. They seem to be a different kind of people. I cannot recall meeting one who goes cheerfully about his or her duty.
Once, I piled a few plates and took them to a cleaner with a trolley a few tables away.
She was unhappy and told me to leave them at the table. I do not know why and did not ask.
Perhaps it is not my luck to meet one who is cheerful.
