Help all groups meet challenges of going digital

It is heartening to see the Government’s efforts to introduce a comprehensive digital national identification system that citizens can use for an array of services (“Coming soon: A digital national ID system”; Feb 27).

We have also seen the Government’s efforts to enhance the online security of SingPass. Citizens will need to do their part in staying vigilant, however, so that their data are not misused by prospective criminals such as hackers.

We will also need to consider the concerns of elderly citizens who are not IT savvy and not educated in the English language. User-friendliness and over-the-counter services can still be enhanced for them.

So I acknowledge the efforts to build a more convenient and efficient nation, but we must concurrently address the challenges faced by every group in accessing certain infrastructures and facilities.
