Honesty declaration would have implications for civil servants

I cannot agree more that parents and teachers play a pivotal role in nurturing the right values to motivate the young to be upright. (“Honesty in civil servants a matter of nurture, not signature”; Jan 19)

However, an annual honesty declaration, which I suggested in “Civil servants should sign annual declaration of honesty” (Jan 17), would have implications if a civil servant were to lie.

The act of signing would be a serious pledge of honesty. Those who would lie and are found later to be corrupt would have more to answer for in court.
